In 1489, Hans Haverlandt (butcher, councillor, chamber member and mayor) built the house “Ritter St. Georg”. With its late Gothic carvings, it is considered one of the most significant fullypreserved half-timbered (“Fachwerk”) houses in Braunschweig. The solid wall on the ground floor goes back to a previous building, a medieval stonehouse. This historic build-ing is now a hotel. In what is now a restaurant, you can admire Baroque ceiling paintings.
