Komödie am Altstadtmarkt

The Komödie am Altstadtmarkt is Braunschweig's only completely unsubsidised theater and at the same time, with 307 seats, Lower Saxony's largest private boulevard and entertainment theater.

Since it opened in 2003, the theater has had around seven full-length in-house productions per season each year, as well as one children's play at Christmas time every year. The varied program is rounded off by numerous guest performances, such as Travesty shows and comedy programs.

Since the house, as is common in private theaters, does not have a permanent ensemble, in addition to numerous experienced stage actors, prominent actors also repeatedly contribute to the success of the theater. The following well-known artists have already been on the stage of the Komödie am Altstadtmarkt in recent years: Michael Schanze, Kalle Pohl, Andrea Spatzek, Hans Jürgen Bäumler, Hans von Borsody, Gernot Endemann, Karl-Heinz von Hassel, Horst Janson, Ulli Kinalzik, Jörg Pleva, Wolfgang Spier, Heidi Mahler and many more.

Productions such as “Ladies Night”, “Die Feuerzangenbowle”, “der Hund von Baskerville”, “Monsieur Ibrahim und die blumen des koran”, “Agatha Christie's Hobby ist Mord!”, “Urlaub mit Papa”, "Ekel Alfred: Ein Herz und eine Seele "," Caveman "and" Keinohrhasen" clearly show that the spectrum of theater goes far beyond the usual tabloid plays.
